Christmas Greetings!

Dear Worthy Brothers,

Greetings from the council to you and your dear family members!
My family and I take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry and a Blessed Christmas. We wish you a happy, healthy and a successful New Year.

At this time of the year, let us pray for the brother knights and any of their family members who are unwell. Let us also all pray for world peace and for our Christians, who are being persecuted for their belief and are unable to practice their faith.

Last but not least, thank you for your continuing support to the council in 2014, and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year. If you are travelling out of the province and country, we wish you a bon voyage.
Peace and blessings,

GK - Edwin, Christine, Sheena & Edwina D'Cruz

Blood Donor Clinic - August 2014

I am pleased to inform you that our recently concluded Blood Donor Clinic event at the parish hall was indeed successful and encouraging trend wise.

We noted that there were a number of knights from our council who kindly donated their blood, including a few first timers. It was also noted that family members (spouses, daughters and sons) of our knights donated blood. We are very grateful to all of our donors who took the time and made the effort to attend the parish and the CBS, Heartland clinics.

There were 54 (77 in Feb) donors in total and the CBS collected 35 (44 units in Feb) of blood. A unit of blood when divided into components save 3 lives, thus the 35 units collected at our clinic will help 105 patients at our local hospital.

Our grateful thanks to Brother Priyal Jayasinghe who was the Chair for this event. Our thanks also go to all the knights who assisted with the sign-up for the event over several weekends, phone calls made to blood donor registrants and making themselves present on Saturday to support Brother Priyal.

Our thanks also go to Msgr. Edgardo Pan, Parish Pastor and Joanita Miranda from the office for the support provided.

Our Director PR Brother Luis Gomes will be uploading some of the photos on our web site. Please visit the web site @ http://kofc12067.blogspot.ca/. Please also take a moment to visit the KOC Ontario State web site and click under Friday File. The address is http://www.ontariokofc.ca/

13th Annual Golf Tournament Report

Dear Worthy Brothers,
I am pleased to let you know, though belated, that our recently concluded 13th Annual Golfing Tournament was a resounding success. The tournament took place on Saturday, July 12th at the Hornby Glen Golf Course, under clear blue skies and with the sun shining down on all participants (unlike the previous year when we got rained out on several occasions).
The renamed winning plaque CGK Mathew Rodrigues Memorial Trophy was won by Bro. Stephen Goodman (from our council) and his team of Steve Caloran, Mark O’Mara & Paul Walker.  Well done Stephen and Team!
We also welcomed Maureen Rodrigues (spouse of CGK Mathew Rodrigues), daughter Michele, son-in-law Cedric and grandkids  Adelaide & Noah, who joined all of us for supper and the distribution of the prizes and the winning raffle tickets.
On behalf of the executive committee, our grateful thanks to PGK Valens, Chair (second year running) and to his hard working committee of brother knights. They worked hard on obtaining hole sponsorships, raffle prizes, silent auction items and other items to make the event a highly successful one, both in terms of enjoyment coupled with fraternity, amongst the brother knights and closing the event with a bottom line of over $4,000.00.  Well done Team and keep up the good work.
Our grateful thanks to all of our sponsors who contributed both in cash and kind, to the brothers knights from our council for their generous donation of gifts including silent auction items. To all of the participants from our council and the other councils, SABA Assembly & other Assemblies and all other participants, our sincere and grateful thanks. Out thanks also go to the volunteers (knights and others) who assisted prior to and on the day of the tournament.

Father's Day BBQ June 15, 2014

On a clear blue sky day with the temperature ranging in the early 20s, it was the perfect setting for a Father's Day BBQ. This is an annual event which the council has been having for several years now, whereby the BBQ is offered after the 10.30 a.m. and 12 noon
 Masses.

The brother knights commenced the prep work a couple of days earlier in purchasing the burgers, sausages, buns, condiments ,pop, water and other essential items required to make the BBQ hugely successful.

On Sunday morning, the brother knights along with PGK Gabriel Ogundele and PGK Fred Gamboa event Chair/Co-Chair commenced the preparation of the burgers and sausages and set up the music system along with some tables and chairs to enjoy the beautiful outdoor weather.

The event was supported by the parishioners, families of the brother knights and well wishers of the parish and council. The net proceeds of this event will be donated to the Vita Manor, Mississauga. For more information on Vita Manor, please visit their web site http://www.vitamanor.org/

Our grateful thanks to the PGKs Gabriel and Fred, Chair and Co-Chair, IPGK Joseph and to our community of brother knights who formed part of the BBQ Team, working with dedication, zeal and camaraderie. The Squires Executive & the Counsellors also provided good support to the brother knights throughout the morning by promoting the event to the parishioners and then assisting with the BBQ.

Well done to all of the brother knights who generously volunteered their precious time in the preparation of the tickets, posters, sale of tickets during Masses, set-up of the BBQ area, purchase of items, preparing the BBQ, manning the cash station and cleaning-up after the event.

Easter Greetings from the Grand Knight

Dear Worthy Brother Knights,

On behalf of the Executive and I, I take this opportunity to wish each of you and your dear family members, Easter Greetings. Let the Risen Lord bless us and keep us all under his constant protection. Enjoy and be safe.

Please take a few moments from your busy life to pray for the brother knights and their family members who are unwell and/or recovering from an illness. Remember also and pray for the success and well being of those brother knights who are looking for new work opportunities.

Pope Francis writes, “To remember what God has done and continues to do for me, for us, to remember the road we have travelled; this is what opens our hearts to hope for the future.” Pope Francis reminds us often that it is not “me” but “us” who moves along to God and an eternity of happiness.

The above is an extract from the Father Michael J. McGivney Guild newsletter-March-April-issue 2. If you would like to join the guild please go to:

Fraternal Activity Night – “Unity” - Belated posting

On Friday, January 24th Council #12067 held our second Fraternal Activity Night (FAN) with a theme around “Unity”. We had 72 brothers who came out for some good old fun. Everyone warmed up to the music of Brothers Alan and Walter and their gang of Friday night jammers. After a few warm up stretches, the gang of merry men got even more relaxed dancing to the chicken dance.
During the evening, a few brothers shared their business services and products which turned out to be very interesting. We received information about cruise vacations, mortgages, wood-working posts/spindles, real-estate/condos, music education/bands, project management and legal advice. We will showcase another session in the future possibly dedicated to business ventures, entrepreneurship and mentoring on how to get started with your own business.

After dinner the games begun, brothers played ping-pong, Texas-holdem, participated in a horse race and enjoyed an evening of fraternity.

Thanks to the committee comprising of brothers, PGK Gabriel, Rudolph, Mario, Alvin, Pepito, Hilary, Alan, Victor, Trevorlyn and working behind the scenes Joseph D.

Thanks to Bro. Vivian’s wife Florence who prepared us a scrumptious roast beef dinner!

We are all looking forward to our next FAN coming soon.
